If you’re having trouble “choosing to be happy” — it’s still possible! Here’s how.

A common phrase overheard at Daybreaker is “we choose to be happy,” but what if you’re trying — and it’s just not working yet?

Happiness is a choice. We are told that “it’s not our conditions that cause us discomfort or unhappiness— it’s our thoughts about them.” And we can choose to see these through a lens of positivity at any given moment. We have control over the vibes we are sharing with the world, and with enough practice, these thought patterns become easier and easier, to the point where they become our habitual way of thinking. Ultimately, they can become second nature.

But what if we’re trying to choose happiness — and it’s just not feeling authentic yet?

Don’t panic — it happens!

If it’s hard to achieve choosing happiness right now, then let that be okay (for the moment!)

Things don’t always click on the first try. Or the second, third, fifth, fiftieth or five hundred and seventy second in some cases …. Let that be okay for the moment.

But be careful to not stay here too long. A quick way out is simply to remember that choosing happiness on a regular basis IS a possibility. Be willing to believe that choosing the route of positivity CAN in fact become your norm and eventually … it will. 😊

 

Choose to share good vibes.

If you can’t feel the positive vibes yourself, spread positive vibes to someone else. The number one way to shake off a funk is hands down, by being of service to someone else. If we all operated this way, imagine the world we could create. 💖🌍  Move your attention from your own inner turmoil, outwards to someone who could benefit from your attention, your words or your thoughtfulness.

3 ways to de-funk:

1.// Get your hands dirty with a DIY project that you intend as a gift for someone else. Keep that person in mind while you craft.

2.// Call someone up and ask them about their day. Before the phone call, decide you won’t go down the rabbit hole of talking about the negativity you’re feeling. Keep the attention on them and really listen, engage and ask questions about their life. Find a memory, a song, a quote or a hilarious GIF to share that you know will brighten their day.  Focus on the positive of being there for them and voila, you’re choosing happiness. 😉

3.// Get involved in something bigger than you. Track down a charity or an organization that’s doing something awesome. Find ways to help them create their magic. When you’re in community, working together for a greater cause — you’ll start connecting with your purpose and suddenly, choosing happiness will feel much easier.

This is a great big world with so much to be excited about. Offer your heart to it, get your hands dirty, and have fun. ✨
