Edition 58: 💌 Community News, Noodles & Tunes

Happy Sunday, Daybreaker Fam!

What a wild month we have ahead with Daybreaker at the Smithsonian, in One Observatory in Philly where we’re dancing 57 stories in the sky, and Madame Tussaud’s in Los Angeles! 💃

Here’s a beautiful story from one of our community members that we wanted to share. If you have a dance floor tale to share as well, we want to hear it! Email us at morningmischief@daybreaker.com. 💌  And scroll down to see all our upcoming events around the world along with our Sunday playlist to listen to as your dancing through your Sunday chores.

We love you endlessly.❤️Enjoy Jenny’s amazing story:

✨DANCING BACK INTO HAPPY✨

I was always the kid who was “high on life.” My natural optimism for life did not require any substances — just sunlight. After moving to New York, I started to lose my natural happiness. My dopamine levels were at an all-time low, and I wasn’t quite sure where to turn. I was tired all the time, and the sky seemed less blue every time I looked up. 🌧

When I discovered Daybreaker, I found that natural high again. Smelling the water on the Hornblower Cruise took me away from the suffocating city, and it felt like I could breathe again. In such a lonely, judgmental city, it’s hard to find community, positive energy and support. 🏙 Daybreaker gave me all of those things again. I’ll never forget that morning, spending three hours dancing with friends — I felt so grateful to be alive and present. ✨

One more thing — I really can’t dance.🙈 Whenever I go to clubs or parties, I get so nervous that people will make fun of my dancing, but at Daybreaker, I never feel that way. The amount of pure love that is given to you from complete strangers at an event is incomparable. Everyone wants everyone to succeed, and nobody is unkind.

🚢 During that morning on the boat, I remember hearing the Daybreaker anthem play. I had tears running down my face, and when I looked to the stranger next to me, I saw her tears as well. We smiled at each other, knowing that we were connected. That kind of connection inspires me. It leaves me feeling like I can conquer the world. I cannot wait to get back to the dancefloor again.✨

// With love & mischief,
Jenny

ONTO  THE  NOODLES🍲

Holidays are an incredible opportunity for families (and chosen families aka your bffs)💕 to come together, nurture relationships, and celebrate life. But as we consider the fact that relationship health is equally as crucial to the human experience as physical health — why wait for the calendar’s cue to create meaningful experiences?

5 holiday family traditions you can re-design to incorporate into your daily life: 🙌

📚Remembering Our Ancestors / Storytelling: Each year, the Jewish culture conducts the Seder where they re-tell the story about their ancestors’ liberation. Considering that on a typical day, two thirds of conversations between parent and child are about daily routine, this holiday tradition of a richer kind of “family talk” might be worth exploring more often.

📬Sending Cards: This tradition isn’t just for the holidays — when was the last time we broke out those colored pencils and really went to town? Next time a friend or family member pops into your head, put on your creativity hat and get to work on something awesome that will remind them just how much you care.

🍽 Sharing Meals: Why keep the delish spreads and traditional dishes to certain times of the year? What if we invited neighborhood and family friends more often — “a la the holidays.” What if we swapped out the less mundane dinner routine for something more inspiring (Taco Tuesday? Sunday Potluck?) and used it as an excuse for regular neighborly connection.

🎨Flexing Our Creativity Muscles: Channel all those years dying Easter eggs, decorating Elijah’s cup at Passover, or making your own lantern for Chinese New Year. Getting artsy doesn’t have to be just a holiday tradition. Decorate something fun and unique in your everyday life just cuz!

💑 Cope with Stress Better: For some of us, the holidays are the only time we have friends and family close by. A study by Carnegie Mellon University found that people who speak to family and friends as emotional buffers are less likely to seek out negative coping mechanisms like alcohol, smoking, drugs. Imagine the healing that could happen if we were to surround ourselves with our emotional support system more often?

Hmmmm. Something worth noodling about, dontcha think? Here’s to celebrating and connecting erryday!

Cuz spring has sprung, y’all.

“Family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in your life who want you in theirs. The ones you accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile, and who love you no matter what.”
