Edition 62: how to actually jumpstart life this week in 3 small steps

Happy Sunday, Fam! 💕

What a week, what a week. The months are just flying by and we’ve found ourselves back at sea. In NYC, we hosted our first boat party of the year (and San Francisco’s got one on the horizon for next week, too!). It pourrrred in NYC but guess what? Fam from every borough said yes anyways and we all danced together at sea. This magic is truly rain or shine, y’all. 🌊

We’ve got a big week ahead, too! On May 1st our campus tour continues 🎓 (if you know anyone at Rochester Institute of Technology, let ’em know!) Then on May 4th, we’re dancing at Fenway Park in Boston. Oh yessss. May the epic locales continue… ⚾️

For years, I have dedicated myself to producing events focused on music. While nightlife is great, it often lends itself to social lubricants (drugs/alcohol) that are counterproductive to the benefits of dancing. Daybreaker is the yang to the yin that is nightlife. It is a pure experience that creates friendships and builds lasting bonds between all sorts of wonderful people from the community. ✨

I realize every time I peruse recap photos from Daybreaker, that for three hours straight, there is a non-stop flurry of laughter, smiles, and cheerful play going on between hundreds of people. These moments are ones I cherish. They are fleeting; they come and go in an instant. That’s what makes Daybreaker so special — it’s a beautiful butterfly dance, where people float through the event passing positive emotions to each other and contribute to the happiness of the group.🦋 It is a time when people can regenerate their bodies and rejuvenate their soul through yoga and dance.

Creating Daybreaker events has been more than rewarding. It’s a chance to create an environment for people to bring wellness, joy and expression into their lives. Seeing so many people wholeheartedly enjoy themselves gives me a great sense of fulfillment and an abundant amount of energy to continuing creating more mischief in the morning. ☀️

🍲ONTO THE NOODLES🍲

A 1,2,3 Mini Reset for Life This Week

Let’s actually use Sunday as the jumping off point for a more interesting and energized week. Here are a few ideas. 💡

1// Meal plan brain food 🥒

There’s something out there called the Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay diet (MIND diet for short). It’s purely designed to boost cognitive function rather than having anything to do with weight loss. Salmon, extra-virgin olive oil, blueberries, and nuts are all staples. Our brains love them because the fatty acids rebuild brain cells and help slow cognitive decline and the antioxidants protect us against oxidative stress. Try it for two weeks. Notice what changes.

2.// Reframe a “problem”🙌

Entertain the idea that in any given moment, nothing is horribly wrong. What if you supported the belief that life doesn’t happen to you — instead it happens for you. Think of a rough situation you have to dive back into in the week ahead (hint, hint, it might be what you were obsessing over last week too), and give it a reframe. When you get honest with yourself and identify what part of your character the situation is helping develop, you kinda gotta admit, the tradeoff’s 100% worth it (even if it may not feel that way right now). Think reframed thoughts and you’ll go into the week feeling like you just hit the reset button to your life.

3.// Commit to making a “weird” decision 🤔

We’re all a series of habitual thoughts and behaviors. These thoughts and behaviors create our realities. Shake things up and remind yourself of the vast expansiveness of possible things. Choose something outside the norm. Repeat this sort of decision often and see what kind of new experiences you welcome into your life. Start Monday. 😉
