“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.”

– Alan Watts

Happy Sunday Fam! 💕

What a week, what a week. Radha’s book tour continues (she would love to meet you while on tour — check out all her stops here!🗺) She is currently in Phoenix after a few magical days in Boulder and Denver where they also celebrated Boulder’s 2 year anniversary! 15 cities to go!

If BELONG resonated with you, we would so appreciate an Amazon review as your words matter. The more we talk about this deeply important issue of community and belonging, the more impact we will have. It starts with us and we’re counting on you. ❤️☀️🙏

UP NEXT! We’re hitting dance floors all over the world in DC, Chicago, NYC, LA, Paris, San Francisco, Miami aaaand Tokyo… all this week.✈️ Shine those dancing shoes and do a couple extra stretches for this one. Anyone ever do a little Daybreaker road trip? 🚘 If you’re feeling spontaneous, maybs this is your week…

Ok fam, keep scrolling for more good stuff. We’ve got this edition’s dance floor tale, our community events, Sunday tunes and a “how to” for a dancing meditation.

✨❤️A STORY FROM THE HEART❤️✨

Hearing at 36 that you have heart failure and that you need a heart transplant is something no one should ever have to endure. It is a nightmare roller coaster of emotional and physical chaos… the likes of which most of us mere mortals have never imagined.

Yet, here I am.

Patiently waiting. How? One of the miraculous pieces of technology that has enabled me to bridge my time to transplant is an LVAD or Left Ventricular Assist Device. A mechanical pump of sorts, implanted in my heart, that assists in supplying oxygenated blood to the rest of my body. A small wire comes out from below my ribs and connects to little more than a small control unit and some batteries, attached inconspicuously to a belt strap around my waist, are all that are visible.

Six months, to the day, after my LVAD implantation I attended my first Daybreaker dance party. I was there with a group of loyal, battle-tested friends — angels really that guided me back to the light after my surgery and diagnosis of heart failure. What I discovered within this Daybreaker oasis was a welcome respite from the life altering reality of my illness. I reveled… for a moment in time, absent from the darkness, away from the cross I was charged to bear. Joined with these free spirits in unabashed self-expression, I was able to release my fear and anger, liberate my frustration and confusion… and rediscover love and light. ✨

Interspersed around wax stars of Hollywood (we were dancing at Madame Tussaud’s), amidst the throng of delighted yogis gyrating to the beats radiating from the pulsating music, I could not help but realize the humble reality of my experience: I was dressed as a giant penguin, with an artificial device in my chest, keeping me alive while I wait for a heart transplant. I danced my heart out (no pun intended), surrounded by elevated souls and people I loved. I exclaimed like the tin man on parade, ‘how lucky am I?!’

One of the greatest truths I have discovered in this tumultuous sea of trials, which has yet to subside, is that “the only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.” -Alan Watts

With love & mischief,
// Andrew

MORNING NOODLES 🍲

Osho’s Dynamic Meditation Technique. 🙏 Aka what to do if you care about meditation, but sitting still is … not a ton of fun.

Meditation is great for optimizing any experience we meet in life. Our frontal cortex, the area of the brain responsible for self-conscious awareness switches to off/ very quiet. Our thalamus, or gatekeeper to the senses slows the outside information coming in down to a trickle.

But if you’re a mover or a dancer (like us🙌) what happens if sitting still is not your jam?

Cue… The Basic Osho Dynamic Meditation Technique

Here’s what the mystic and sage, himself, suggests for a more mover-friendly medi experience:

1.//  Spend 5 mins standing up and focusing on your breathing. Relax.

2.// Now turn your focus to your body. Do a body scan from the crown of your head to the bottoms of your feet, feeling the sensation in each centimeter of every body part.

3.// Soon, you’ll receive an impulse to move. Go with it. Let your body dictate your mind.

4.// After 10 minutes, you should be moving quite actively. Stay focused on the body and try your best not to judge your movements.

5.// Spend 20 minutes in this state, dancing it out with or without music. 🎶

6.// When you’re ready to end, shake out any remaining tensions. Then lie on the floor for 5 minutes, meditating on your surroundings.

Why do it and what to expect? Well, according to Osho, “I never tell people to begin with just sitting. With a mad dance, you begin to be aware of a silent point within you; with sitting silently, you begin to be aware of madness.”✨

Give it a try and watch what happens…
