Behind the Scenes Of Our First-Ever Daybreaker Sunday Funday!
Hi, I’m Mischief, the dancing Daybreaker Dragon. Rawr.😉 I want to invite you behind the scenes of our first-ever Daybreaker Sunday Funday mini-fest in Oakland. I’ve got my friend, Mustafa, here (our SF Producer and Community Catalyst) to take us on a backstage tour.✨
April 30th, we hosted our first-ever day-long Daybreaker festival: Sunday Funday …
Mischief: Hi Mustafa! Last week was the biggest Daybreaker in history — you must be excited.
Mustafa: Thanks, Mischief. For quite some time, the Daybreaker team has been batting around the idea of producing an experience that’s bigger than our normal weekday morning parties. Plus, in the Bay Area, we’ve been meaning to throw something special on a Sunday for people who can’t attend our weekday events. Luckily, we connected with an awesome event partner, Gig Car Share, who helped us make this vision come true. We decided to go out on a limb and host a festival, and I’m so grateful the Daybreaker community embraced it!
Mischief: Oh look! 👀 There they are with of our musicians! (They brought so many cars … like, so many.)
Mustafa: We had the honor of throwing the event in Oakland, considered one of the most diverse cities in America. The team and I loved the opportunity to throw an event that attracted an audience that spanned all ages and ethnicities, which made this a true community celebration.
Mustafa: Plus, we got to showcase some amazing local DJs (David Harness, LadyRyan, Dedan, J Boogie Dubtronic Science), live musicians, and stage performers.
Mustafa: The Oakland-based crew TURFinc brought an awesome group of breakdancers who spanned the ages of 18 and 65 — I’ve never seen a 65 year old bust moves like what I witnessed!
Mustafa:We definitely had more people than the regular Daybreaker, and in fact, it was the largest crowd we’ve ever had! This was a moment for our community members to spend more time together and enjoy a variety of fun festival experiences — art installations, cool puppets soaring through the air above the crowd, energetic music…
Mustafa: It was truly something special. “Community” to me means people with a similar set of values come together to celebrate life. Ultimately, it’s this beautiful feeling where you’re one with the crowd. And that’s exactly what this day was about.
Thank you to each and every community member (new and old!✨ ) who made the day truly magical. There’s more mischief to be had, so stay tuned. We’ll see you on the dance floor — wherever it may be next … 😉
