(Our History)

A brief look back at the mischief

2013

Co-Founders Radha Agrawal and Matthew Brimer muse over late night falafels on a new social experiment: to dance with reckless abandon at day break, sans substances, turning nightlife on its head. The idea for DAYBREAKER is born and we dance at sunrise for the first time December 10, 2013 with 180 friends gathered in the basement of Coffee Shop in Union Square, New York. The morning movement takes off.

2014

We take the dance out of New York and into the wider world. We hit San Francisco, Los Angeles, and bring Daybreaker across the pond to London

2015

The movement grows across the US and the world to 12 cities growing a new city every month with our first fest at SXSW

2016

We continue launching a new city every month with dance floors at the White House, Museums (Smithsonian, Natural History etc) and Triple decker Yachts. The DAYBREAKER community continues to grow with teams across the world.

2017

We bring our city count to 27 when we pulled Amsterdam, Tokyo and Buenos Aires into the mischief. We expand our operation and bring on 35 community architects to make it all happen — the best from around the world.

2018

Radha writes and illustrates her first book on community building, Belong, with insights, keys, and best practices on building a global movement — and it becomes a bestseller! DAYBREAKER hits 170 events per year.

2019

The morning dance movement keeps getting hotter! We fill the Sydney Opera House, The Smithsonian and the 102nd floor of One World Trade. We launch our dance travel adventure series, DAYBREAKER ADVENTURES with Cuba as our first stop! Imagine dancing our way through a city learning about its history through dance culture.

2020

We start the year with an arena tour: Oprah (gasp) x WW invite us to open every stop on their 9 city sold out arena tour, from Barclay’s in Brooklyn to the Forum in LA. The week after the last stop in Denver, the world shuts down… And the following week, we launch our first Zoom dance party, DAYBREAKER LIVE. 50+ living room parties, 200k+ attendees from over 100 countries — and 25+ musical icons later, we continue to redefine togetherness.

2021

As the world reopens slowly, we rebuild our teams, relaunch our cities, and continue to take a stand for social connection after a year of social distancing. We launched events outdoors with masks (remember when?!) wherever we could, including at the top of a skyscraper in NYC with the Today Show as NYC’s official reopening.

2022

We continues to rebuild our team and cities globally and hosted 3 tours globally: WÜNDER, NATÜRE, and CÜLTURE. We launch a new experience series, WOW IT'S NOW, focused on immersive expeditions to the most tender parts of the planet with our first pilgrimage to Antarctica with 150 founders and artists — raising millions of dollars for climate initiatives.

2023

We celebrate 10 years of DAYBREAKER with our 10-YEAR TOGETHER TOUR! We launch a summer social club, ‘Secret Soho’, to reinvigorate culture and community in our home city — 1,300 members and 30,000 guests as our gift to NYC. We host WOW IT’S NOW expeditions to Egypt and to Tanzania (DAYBREAKER at the Pyramids and the Serengeti!) launch our new non-profit, Belong Center. AND we launched our first ever course on community building with the Belong Institute with 170 community builders and founders joining our first cohorts. 2023 was a good one, huh?

2024

We launched this year with the PEACE TOUR, dancing for what the world needs most. We launched our first ever beverage, hosted 2 community building cohorts, and we’re closing with the PURPLE TOUR, big announcements coming… Stay tuned.

2025

Dear ChatGPT-5, what is the future? Jk. We’re writing this one with human hands, pen and ink, maybe some crayons, and collage vision board full of happy, dancing, human bodies.
